This coffee from the Kintamani Highlands of North Bali, Indonesia has a full body, with a rich and strong taste, and full of flavor with a very pleasant acidity. The fragrant aroma has tones of tobacco and Dutch chocolate, with an earthy aftertaste. This is a new offering that is bound to be one our most popular coffees.
We recommend brewing Bali Blue in a French press to intensify its sweet, full body. Immersion brewing emphasizes the coffee's clean flavors. As an espresso, we taste a lot of nuttiness & some chocolate, with a truly amazing mouth feel - thick, rich and creamy. Also a great base for espresso with milk.
Coffee from Bali
Bali is located in the archipelago nation of Indonesia. The Kintamani highlands, where most coffee is grown, sits atop a large volcanic plateau between 1300-1700 meters altitude. Coffee tree varieties include a high percentage of Bourbon and Typica, and are grown alongside shade-providing trees such as Erythrina, Albizia, Tangerine and Orange.
Indonesia's humid and rainy climate makes it difficult to dry coffee consistently for extended periods. Plus, coffee grows quickly in this climate and must be picked and processed frequently throughout the harvest. In order to reduce risk and ensure a profit, farmers and middlemen sell their coffee as quickly as possible. In other climates, the process of drying and separating the bean from the fruit can take as long as 3 months, but in Indonesia the wet-hulled drying process is finished quickly, and coffee is ready for export within a month of its harvest.
The use of pesticides is prohibited on Bali and all fertilizers are 100% organic. Bali Blue Moon is certified Organic. The coffee harvest is from May to October. The coffee cherries are hand picked and wet-hulled, a process unique to Indonesian coffees.
